Details of the lease, which now goes to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors for approval, was not immediately available. The McClellan Air Force Base closes this July and will be handed to Sacramento County at no cost. The base includes 3,100-acres of property with an airport, more than 10 million-sf of former military buildings and much of the base's equipment.
Sacramento Regional Transit has signed a $124 million deal with CAF to build as many as 54 cars. The Meadowview extension is scheduled to open by late 2003 and will require 24 cars. The Folsom extension, which will require 14 new cars, is slated for completion December 2003. CAF will assemble the cars in Spain and ship them to its McClellan Business Park facility to be outfitted with the necessary component parts.
