Church Gets Green Light for $15-Mil Expansion

CHARLOTTE-Myers Park United Methodist Church is doubling the size of its existing complex and transforming the intersection on which it sits. The 4,000 members already have pledged $8.3 million for the fall construction start.

CHARLOTTE-The 4,000 members of Myers Park United Methodist Church have pledged $8.3 million of the $15 million needed to build a three-story, 66,000-sf addition to the existing 75-year-old, 60,000-sf structure, according to a published article. Construction is tentatively set for the fall with completion in 2002.

The plan has been approved by church members and the city. The renovation represents one of the Charlotte faith community’s largest and most expensive building projects. The congregation is the second largest among 1,145 United Methodist churches in Western North Carolina.

Plans call for $11 million to be spent on construction, $1.5 million on renovation, $1 million for furniture and maintenance and $1.5 million for outreach, according to the article.
