Local Theme Park Owner Reports Higher Sales and Earning in 2000

CHULA VISTA, CA-The publicly traded Ohio-based company that owns Knott's Soak City USA water park here reported a boost in both revenues and earnings for 2000.

CHULA VISTA, CA-The Cedar Fair LP, an Ohio-based company that owns Knott’s Soak City USA water park here, reported a boost in both revenues and earnings for 2000.

Based in Sandusky, OH, Cedar Fair operates five amusement parks and four water parks, including White Water Canyon and Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park. The company, which bought the Chula Vista water park in December 1999 for about $11.6 million and renamed it Knott’s Soak City USA, saw an 8% increase in revenues and a 7% increase in earnings for the year.

The 33-acre water park, formerly White Water Canyon, offers more than 20 separate water rides and attractions, including 16 water slides, a wave pool, a lazy river and a children’s activity area, as well as food and merchandise shops. Cedar Fair took over last year after lenders foreclosed on the previous owners and forced the sale of the park.
