Plaza Area Church Mounts Capital Campaign for $10-Mil Renovation

KANSAS CITY-Visitation parish plans to add to the sanctuary, build a new chapel and community center on the lower level. The expansion is one of the largest efforts of Catholic parishes in the country.

KANSAS CITY-As commercial and residential development along the Brush Creek Corridor east of the Country Club Plaza continues at a quick pace, the need to keep up with the needs of the neighborhood has prompted church officials and parishioners at Visitation to consider expansion. Costs for the project are estimated at about $10.6 million.

The Spanish design of the nearly 100-year-old church was an inspiration for the facades of the buildings located on the Plaza. Now, church officials want to add to the sanctuary, build a new chapel and community center on the lower level.

The church is currently undergoing a capital campaign to pay for the improvements, which are slated to begin next spring and be completed in the spring of 2003.
