Fate of First 35-Mile Commuter Train from Suburbs to Downtown Hinges on $227,000 Study

ORLANDO-The Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority, which goes by the name of Lynx, has started compiling data to show Gov. Jeb Bush and the Legislature they should reconsider giving the $68 million project the $8 million it previously pulled back for lack of documentation. New commercial projects would sprout at the various stations, backers say.

ORLANDO-Momentum for the first 35-mile commuter train from Lake County to Downtown Orlando is gaining some speed this week as the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority begins compiling data showing a need for the $68 million project.

New commercial projects would be developed at the various stations, backers tell GlobeSt.com, but few could project their size or value. “It has potential,” is all Dean Fritchen, a senior industrial broker at Arvida Real Estate Services Inc., would tell GlobeSt.com.

The Florida Department of Transportation is funding the bulk of the $227,000 study. Lake and Orange counties, Apopka and the Florida Central Railroad of Plymouth, FL each contributed $12,500.
