At Monday night's meeting, the council expanded the authority of the Vancouver Public Facilities District to allow the council-appointed citizen group to develop the center. In doing so, the city will now be able to accumulate tax credits from the state that can be applied to cost of the project.
The proposed complex, which would be located on four square blocks south of Esther Short Park, would include a 6,500-seat multi-use arena; a 36,000-sf convention center and exhibition hall; and a $20-million, 175-room hotel. The hotel would be built by private developers.
