The 252-room, four-story building, located in the center of Fisherman's Wharf, is a short walk from the Cannery, Ghiradelli Square, Pier 39 and both cable car lines to Chinatown and Union Square. The property, which is also close to the city's Financial District, Civic Center and the Moscone Convention Center via the new MUNI streetcar line, totals 167,000 sf and is situated on a parcel just under an acre, according to Bocci. The project broke ground in August 1999 and opened last Tuesday. Figures were not available on how much it cost.

Designed in the maritime deco style of the 1940s, the hotel offers 2,220 sf of meeting space, a full-service business center, exercise facilities, a 53-space underground parking garage and retail space. Entry lobby décor includes granite flooring, mahogany paneling and contemporary furnishings. A guest room adjacent to the lobby features a 30-foot vaulted ceiling and a lounge area with a grand fireplace, a large-screen television and a glass-walled pavilion with views onto the courtyard. Each of the 216 rooms and 36 suites include over-sized work desks, in-room safes, coffee makers and irons and ironing boards.

The suites have kitchenettes with microwaves, ovens, refrigerators, two telephones with dual lines, modem capabilities and fully automated voice mail. By summer, in-room broadband Internet access will be provided.

In addition to this hotel, the Atlanta-based Bass Hotels & Resorts operates the adjacent 585-room Holiday Inn and the Crowne Plaza-San Francisco Union Square, the Holiday Inn-San Francisco Financial District and the Holiday Inn-San Francisco Civic Center, totaling 2,200 guestrooms. Bass Hotels & Resorts, the hotel business of Bass PLC of the United Kingdom, operates or franchises more than 2,700 hotels and 450,000 guest rooms in more than 90 countries and territories.

Bocci and Gavello plan to work together on developing additional hotel and retail projects.
