Lowe's to Open 25 Superstores

BOSTON-Lowe’s Cos. plans to build 25 superstores in this area over the next five years. The move is part of a northeast expansion by the North Carolina-based home improvement retailer, which plans to invest $430 million on stores in this area and $1.3 billion on an additional 50 stores in the region.

Lowes is the world’s second largest home improvement chain, behind Home Depot, which is currently nearly double the size of Lowes. The two companies combined account for nearly 20% of the home improvement market. Lowes, which started out in rural markets is now reportedly expanding into urban markets, where Home Depot got its start. There are currently 26 Home Depots in Massachusetts.
