Gordon Brant LLC serves as consultant to Vornado Realty Trust. Vornado is developing the former Alexander's lot at 59th and Lexington and also owns the Union Square Building at East 14th Street, which is now home to the almost dead Bradlees. Randy Brant, president of Gordon Brant confirms with GlobeSt.com that despite reports otherwise, H&M is the only signed tenant at 59th and Lexington and will not take the space at E. 14th Street.
On Dec. 29, 2000 GlobeSt.com reported that industry insider Faith Hope Consolo, vice chairperson of Garrick-Aug Worldwide, had said, though not involved in the deal herself, she had been informed H&M had inked a deal for the E. 14th Street. Earlier on Dec. 5, 2000 GlobeSt.com reported that the latest buzz about town was the possible move of Target to 59th and Lexington. Also, it was reported that word was Bloomberg's deal for the spot was fizzling.
Published reports have indicated for years that Bloomberg was to establish headquarters in what was to be a 75-story, 1.3 million sf skyscraper slated to include retail, hotel and condominium space at 59th and Lexington. The Giuliani administration had reportedly granted Bloomberg $14 million in incentives to facilitate the deal. As of today, Feb. 8, Grant says H&M is the only tenant at Vornado's work-in-progress.
Grant says 200,000 sf remain and negotiations are in the works with a number of possible tenants, although he could not divulge specific names. The space at the former Bradlees site remains to be filled and Gordon Brant is working to re-tenant the property for Vornado now. Although, again with whom the negotiations are underway he would not discuss.
