The winery, which was given the thumbs-up this week by Pleasanton City Council members, is slated for a site near Isabel Avenue in the Ruby Hill area.

Developer Signature Properties will build the winery, which is envisioned as a future storage space and eventual full-service facility. However, it will not include a tasting room, since federal law prohibits vintners from having more than two such rooms. The Wentes already have two tasting rooms.

It is not certain which vintner will be chosen to operate the winery; however, winery-owner Phil Wente has said he would like to see an independent vintner at the helm. The winery will be built in the middle of what is considered Livermore wine country. The town of Livermore is near Pleasanton.
