Rouse Snags Fourth Anchor for 1.3-Mil SF Regional Mall; Year-End Construction Start Now Eyed

SAN ANTONIO-It's taking longer than anticipated, but plans are progressing on the 1.3-million sf regional mall. Early next week, The Shops at La Cantera will reveal the identity of its fourth anchor for the undertaking that will break ground by year's end.

SAN ANTONIO-The Rouse Co. and its regional mall partner, La Cantera Development Co., will be announcing its fourth anchor for a 1.3-million sf regional shopping center that will break ground by year’s end.

Early next week, the company plans to reveal the latest anchor’s name, another department store retailer, for The Shops at La Cantera, a source has confirmed to GlobeSt.com. The 160-acre retail project’s start and completion has shifted since its original announcement. The retail center, planned for the intersection of Interstate 10 west and Loop 1604, won’t be delivering until 2004, according to the source. The project, announced last year, had carried an early 2001 start and late 2002 completion. The inside source says the pre-development phase has taken longer than Rouse had anticipated.

The northwest San Antonio retail center is ticketed for five anchors and 150 specialty stores, restaurants and a state-of-the-art theater. Nordstrom’s, Dillard’s and Foley’s already have committed to lead spots.
