Spano Lobbies State Lawmakers for Biotechnology Center Funding

VALHALLA, NY-Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano is lobbying state lawmakers in Albany to fund the development of a Biotechnology and Life Sciences Research Center at the Grasslands Campus here.

VALHALLA, NY-Citing the county’s high concentration of biotechnology and research firms, Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano is urging New York State government to help fund the development of a Biotechnology and Life Sciences Research Center at the Grasslands Campus here. Spano, who lobbied the Westchester state legislative delegation in Albany on a host of issues, included the biotechnology center as part of his legislative package.

“Biotechnology firms have flourished in Westchester,” said Spano. “But we have found that further growth is stymied by the lack of available and affordable lab, research and incubator space for start-up companies.”

While his proposal lacked any specific funding request or how large the proposed biotech center would be, Salvatore Carrera, director of the Office of Economic Development and Real Estate for Westchester County, says the county would like to see a 300,00 sf to 500,000 sf project developed at the Grasslands campus.
