Eco is searching for manufacturing space for its custom golf equipment division and a headquarters site in Austin for the new operation, a company source tells GlobeSt.com. The source says it's not been determined if a site will be leased or purchased. A 25-employee team is being assembled for the Austin startup, some transferring from California.
Eco Associates, the Austin-based affiliate of Interfase Capital, has bought the firm's intellectual property, a 250,000-customer database and its e-commerce technology platform. Chipshot.com's branding is such that it's critical to retain the name for its loyal following of online purchasers.
Scott J. Hyten, Eco's managing general partner and CEO, says plans call to develop Chipshot.com as a custom club manufacturer and golf e-tailer. Plans call for leveraging Chipshot.com's high-tech platform to grab more of the market share and expand into new areas.
Eco Associates invests in under-funded e-commerce companies that are considered market leaders. Acquired companies outsource technology infrastructure and systems integration to Eco Associates to dramatically reduce costs so that they can focus on market development.
Interfase Capital and its Eco Associates affiliate investments include Mall.com and Urban Box Office, a multimedia company focused on the urban marketplace. It also had invested in Chipshot.com prior to the buyout.
Interfase was founded in February 1999 and is located at 1301 Capital of Texas Highway. Interfase Capital principals are Hyten, Interfase president and CEO; Steve Hicks, chairman of Capstar Partners LLC; Ronald C. Carroll, former chairman of the Continuum Co.; and Jonny Jones, president of Jones-Interfase LP.
