Ex-Retailer, County Commissioner Lands in Property Appraiser's Chair

ORLANDO-Bill Donegan, part of a local government team responsible for bringing one of Oracle Corp.'s largest call centers to Orlando five years ago, is Gov. Jeb Bush's first choice to replace Rich Crotty who takes over as Orange County Chairman.

Orl2-12bORLAND0-New Orleans-born Bill Donegan, generally viewed as pro-development during his eight years as an Orange County commissioner, is stepping into the vacant $124,000-a-year property appraiser’s position in 10 days.

Gov. Jeb. Bush named the 61-year-old consultant, lobbyist and former retailer to the post, citing his broad experience in community and public service. Bush is expected to swear in Donegan, a staunch Republican, by Feb. 19.

Donegan replaces Rich Crotty who takes over as as Orange County chairman. Former chairman Mel Martinez resigned to accept President George W. Bush’s offer to be Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Developmen.
