With the acquisition, the name of the bank was changed to United Bank of Kansas and a loan production office was opened here. Plans call for the new bank, located in the Olathe Station Shopping Center on 119th St., to be a full-scale operation by the end of next month.
The bank was purchased by the Burcham family, whose holdings also include Missouri Bank & Trust Co. of Kansas City. The family opened its first bank in the Johnson County market last year when they opened a Missouri Bank & Trust Co. branch in the Prairie Village Shopping Center.
United Bank of Kansas has a different name to give it a different identity in the southern Johnson County market. This bank will try to market to small to middle-sized family-owned businesses, rather than the large corporations sought as accounts by many of the larger financial institutions in southern Johnson County.
John Geiger, who has 11 years of commercial banking experience, will lead the new office. He was previously vice president with Firstar Bank in Olathe. Suzanne Hannier, who has 22 years of banking experience, will direct the individual accounts division.
Other plans for the bank include opening a full service branch along Kansas Highway 10 in Lenexa next spring. The bank has other branches in Horton, KS and Lancaster, KS that will remain open.
Missouri Bank & Trust Co. is headquartered downtown at 10th and Main streets. It posted a return on assets of 2.78% of the third quarter of 2000, which placed it at No. 2 for that quarter among Kansas City commercial institutions.
The bank, with assets of about $120 million, was named the Greater Kanas City Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year in 1999.
