The added space, which includes a lab area, is undergoing build out by Scott & Reid Contractors. As work progresses, Broadband plans to gradually move employees into the completed areas. The firm now employs 120 people at the Park Boulevard location, but has been adding about one employee per day for some time, he says.
The move is in keeping with Broadband's 2001 strategy to step up its operation. Greg Jones, Broadband's president and CEO, says this year will see a five-fold jump in the number of multi-service gateway units being shipped, with growth expected to increase by about 200% by 2005.
As Broadband grows so is the 16-acre business park where it's located. Dallas-based Wilcox has started excavating for the park's third building, another 85,000-sf single-story structure that will fully build out the holding. Wilcox Development Services is the developer for owner FM 544 Ventura Ltd.
Park Ventura Office Center II already is 44%, or 37,700 sf, pre-leased to Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. Ltd. The third structure is carrying a summer completion, taking Park Ventura Office Center to 200,000 sf. The metroplex firms of PGAL and Spring Valley Construction Co. are serving as architect and general contractor, respectively.
