The Redmond, WA-based company sells cosmetics, perfumes and other products. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 1999 but has continued to operate 22 stores in California.

The company's five OC stores are in Newport Beach, Brea, Laguna Beach, Westminster and Santa Ana. They employ a combined 40 people, a Garden Botanika spokesperson says.

In a statement released to the media, the company also says it is seeking court approval to sell its manufacturing assets, trade names, formulas and other assets. Proceeds will be used to pay off debt, the statement says.
