NEW YORK CITY-It was thought that New York industry heavies were coming together and the MLS was forthcoming, but that may not be the case. Several insiders say the board has fragmented into several smaller groups–some no longer support an MLS, others are unsure of the difference between the existing portal and an MLS and yet others still want an industry-wide, publicly-run MLS.

“We of the Downtown Brokers Association, an organization formed 12 years ago to facilitate co-brokering in Downtown Manhattan, are all in favor of an MLS,” says Jean Kingman of Kingman Associates in an exclusive interview with GlobeSt.com. “We want to make sure that the MLS happens and that the initiative to create it stays on track.”

Others, however, say the existing public portal, nymls.com is enough. To these individuals Kingman counters, “The public portal is very nice, but it’s the MLS that will really serve the brokers and customers in New York.”
