Architectural Firm, County Reach Settlement Over Delayed Jail Annex Project

KANSAS CITY-The Jackson County legislature accepts $1.2 million from the chief architect to settle part of a claim that had been filed against Abend Singleton Associates, now ASAI Architecture.

KANSAS CITY-The Jackson County legislature has accepted a $1.2-million settlement from the chief architect who was hired for a construction project at the county jail annex. The agreement was part of a $4.4-million claim that had been filed against Abend Singleton Associates.

The claim stated that design flaws followed by construction delays forced a 97-day delay. The project was completed late and over budget.

County officials agreed to pay Abend Singleton $203,000 for design fees that had yet to be paid. Abend Singleton, now ASAI Architecture, had filed a counterclaim for $1.4 million, but dropped the claim as part of the agreement.
