Growth Management Panel Sends Anti-Urban Sprawl Ideas to Gov. Bush

ORLANDO-New laws affecting future commercial development in Florida are on the way. But even if Gov. Jeb Bush goes along with all or several of a laundry list of anti-urban sprawl ideas and better-growth-management suggestions from his hand-picked 23-member citizens panel, the earliest any new laws could be placed on the books is 2003.

Still, Bush today begins reviewing the suggestions of the Growth Management Study Commission which completed its seven-month findings in Orlando Feb. 9. Among the suggestions is one barring new housing and mixed-use developments in areas that don’t have enough classrooms to serve the projects.
