The hotel is proposed for a six-acre parcel west of Interstate 15. But it might never get built at all, even though landowner Christopher Chew hopes to break ground later this year.
Chew, who bought the land in late 1999, may have to sell the land to the Metropolitan Transit Commission, which chose the land last year as a site for a transit center, one of five the county hopes to build on Interstate 15 between Mira Mesa and Escondido. .
Through a representative, Chew says he want to move forward with the hotel project, while the transit board is deciding whether or not to buy the property.
A spokesman for the transit board says the agency is finishing environmental studies of the property and predicts that federal funding would be quickly approved for the project. .
