The developers, Atlanta-based Regent Partners, this week filed a lawsuit in the Jackson County Court saying that Mayor Kay Barnes had "poisoned" its efforts to redevelop the downtown district at a cost of about $628 million.
It is unclear whether Regent Partners wants to fight the city council's decision to scrap the company's project, but Regent Partners did disclose the need to protect its investment of more than $3 million spent on architects, engineers and consultants.
This week, the tax increment financing commission will decide whether Regent Partners is in default of its obligations in the redevelopment.
