The idea behind the 11-member Regional Government Efficiency Commission, according San Diego City Councilman Byron Wear, is to consolidate several existing agencies; however, that means the region's 18 cities and the county could be forced to relinquish some power to the new agency.
The meeting will be at the San Diego Association of Governments office at 401 B St. on the eighth floor. Legislation by state Sen. Steve Peace (D-El Cajon) created the commission.
Among other duties, the body will recommend ideas on possible consolidations of the Metropolitan Transit Development Board; the North County Transit District; the Air Pollution Control District; the PortDistrict; and the San Diego Association of Governments, the region's current planning agency.
In addition to Wear, the commission includes: county supervisor Greg Cox; Adm. Paul Speer of the Port District; Julianne Nygaard and RamonaFinnila of the Carlsbad City Council; and Leon Williams, chairman of the Metropolitan Transit Development Board.
The five public members are former state assemblywoman Denise Ducheny, William Jones of CityLink Investment, Mel Katz of Manpower Temporary Services, architect Joe Martinez from Martinez & Cutri and attorney Paul Peterson.
