Proposed 500-megawatt Power Plant Could Light Up 500,000 Homes

ESCONDIDO, CA-A power-plant operator is negotiating with a Quail Hill landowner for 130 acres and plans to put a 500-megawatt facility there.

ESCONDIDO,CA-Sempra Energy Resources has settled on the Quail Hill area in the western portion of the city for a major power plant and is in the process of buying 130 undeveloped acres there.

The company has opened an escrow and held meetings with city officials and residents, as it moves toward building a 500-megawatt plant. The new plant could produce enough energy to power about 500,000 homes.

Sempra is interested in buying 130 acres of the 200-acre Quail Hills parcel, which is zoned for industrial use. The company is working with the owners of the remaining land to draft a comprehensive plan for all of the parcel.
