Michigan was one of the company's largest markets. Bugle Boy Industries Inc., based in Simi Valley, CA, started the process of closing the stores after the US Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles last week approved a three-company partnership to conduct store-closing sales. The company, a fashion powerhouse in the 1980s that first made a name for itself through its balloon-like parachute pants, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Feb. 1.

"The ever increasing competitive pressure on specialty retailers continues to take its toll," said Stephen Miller, principal of retail consultants The Ozer Group of Needham, MA.
