"Our investment will be ongoing," he says in light of other services that have been falling by the wayside. "There are always new databases that we want to add. And every time we add a product, we count on the Internet to deliver it."
Justin G. Garrett, research director for Transwestern Commercial Services in Austin, hails from a generation that can barely recall life without a computer. Today, the 24-year-old plies his trade using the Internet for real estate research.
There are no signs that demand is waning for online real estate information, he says. In recent weeks, one major player in the arena has been courting Austin real estate companies to sign on the dotted line for its services. Garrett knows of five major real estate companies that have inked contracts for the property listing service.
There will be a slowdown in the number of emerging online real estate services just like there is a decline in the number of real estate companies jumping into Web site reconfigurations at the behest of designers. But, says Garrett, "the need for the newest and the best is still out there. The big ones will succeed and the moms and pops won't.
