KickStart opened its flagship location back in September of last year, as GlobeSt.com reported, at 535 W. 34th St. and called it KickStart @ 34th Street. At the time the company's executive vice president told GlobeSt.com that its next building would open in December 2000 at 17 Battery Place near Wall Street to be called KickStart @ Wall Street, and that other buildings would follow across the country in 2001.
The original location totals 45,000 sf in six stories. It houses offices that are "pods" or private suites designed in the Plug-N-Go model for three to 12 people only per office. The new location on West Street, rather than Battery Place, is in fact called KickStart @ Wall Street.
The facility offers 11 fully furnished and wired office suites. Each unit holds between four and 20 people. The designer on tap is STUDIOS Architecture, who created the look of the new space.
"The firm will be involved in the development of early stage and established technology companies," relates Nicholas Bienstock, KickStart's president and CEO. "KickStart will provide space to these technology-related businesses so that the firms can focus on growing their companies rather than spending up-front time and money developing an office infrastructure."
The rental rates of the first venture provided the strategy model for the second location. Bienstock credits the company's success to the major fall-out of several dot-coms because of the extremely high rents and their own lower rates. He says this will propel the company to take several new locations here and around the country before making the move across the sea to international outlets by the close of 2001.
