The project covers the segment of the interstate between Camden Avenue and Broad Street. Construction will begin in April with completion expected in December 2004. Durham is 100 miles northeast of Downtown Charlotte.
The project's infrastructure improvement includes eight bridges, paving 2.2 miles of road, almost 125,000 sf of sound wall, and all related side projects such as signs, striping, culverts, drainage, and utilities. Nine bridges will be demolished, more than one million cubic yards will be excavated, and three temporary bridges and a temporary detour highway will be built, according to the state agency.
Granite will use approximately 160,000 tons of asphalt, 85,000 cubic yards of concrete pavement, and more than 1.5 million pounds of rebar. Granite has offices in 46 cities.
