Chandler Solicits Bids for Downtown Destination Project

PHOENIX-Chandler, one of Phoenix's suburbs, plans to soon clear a five-acre parcel in Downtown and wants developers to submit proposals for a major destination-use project for the site.

PHOENIX-One of the Valley’s suburbs is looking to land a major Downtown anchor. Chandler is seeking proposals for a “major destination use” project that would serve as an anchor to the Downtown business district and draw residents to the region.

The city has designated a five-acre site in Downtown for the project, and may soon demolish the five vacant buildings there. The property is at the northwestern corner of Arizona Avenue and Chicago Street.

More than a year ago, the Chandler City Council rejected a proposal for an ice arena project on the site, saying that the developer, Brent Sapergia, failed to provide the necessary documents regarding his financing for the deal.
