The firm now leases a little less than 58,000 sf at a nearby Duke-Weeks building. The new facility will be built on 6.32 acres at 3169 Dodd Road. The pre-cast concrete building will feature 110,000 sf of warehouse space, 18,000 sf of office space, 24-foot, clear-height ceilings, 25 dock doors and two drive-in doors.
Construction will begin in May 2001, with completion set for October. EGL has signed a 10-year lease to occupy 100% of the building. EGL works with Duke-Weeks in five markets, in part due to the firm's "willingness to be flexible," says Diane Deaton, a corporate real estate consultant for EGL Eagle Global Logistics. The other markets are in Nashville, Jacksonville, St. Louis, and Indianapolis.
After the project is completed, Duke-Weeks will have six acres remaining for development at Eagan Pointe. Duke-Weeks has several other industrial properties located in Eagan, including Apollo Industrial Center III, occupied by Iron Mountain and Tapco.
Duke-Weeks owns, leases or manages more than 109 million sf of property, including nearly 8.5 million sf of office and industrial property in the Twin Cities. It has nearly 3,900 acres of undeveloped land that can support about 60 million sf of future development.
