With the new facility, the company needed to have 1,142 parking spaces, one space for every 100 sf of usable floor space. Harley Ellis, the project architect, says the buildings only need 806 spaces, and that the extra construction costs would cause a hardship.
The City Council voted 4-2 on the variance approval. Mayor Jeanne Stine admitted she went along because her physician practices in the existing building.
