The suburb of Chandler is working with Wells Fargo & Co. to establish a regional operation on a 60-acre parcel at the northwest corner of Price and Queen Creek roads. The bank is in escrow on the property, says Chandler mayor Jay Tibshraeny.
The bank plans to build a campus, totaling one million sf, he says, that would include office space for managerial, technical and customer service departments. Wells Fargo would consolidate some of its operations on the site, which now are located throughout the Valley.
Wells Fargo representatives confirmed that they were looking at building a campus in Chandler, but would not provide any more details, other than to say that the decision won't be made for months.
Wells Fargo has a southwest regional headquarters in Phoenix and 265 branches throughout the state, which employ about 8,800 employees.
Chandler is a suburb about 20 miles southeast of downtown Phoenix. It has been one of the fastest growing cities in the nation for the past decade. The city's has grown from a population of 30,000 in 1980 to approximately 175,000 today. Chandler is also home to two massive Intel chip fabrication plants, and has a significant Motorola presence.
