University Partners with NY Firm for 350,000-SF On-Campus Network Facility

HAYWARD, CA-Cal State Hayward has forged a public-private partnership with New York-based Geographic Network Affiliates International Inc., for development of the facility on six acres of undeveloped campus land.

HAYWARD, CA-Cal State Hayward and New York-based Geographic Network Affiliates International Inc. have forged a public-private partnership that will result in a new 350,000-plus sf network center on the college’s campus. The Internet switching center will be built in two phases on six acres of undeveloped land in a valley near the Pioneer Heights residence hall, which sits on the south end of the campus.

Under the plan, which was approved by the California State University board of trustees on Jan. 24, Geographic Network Affiliates International will build the two buildings and lease them from Cal State Hayward. Upon completion, the university could earn revenues ranging from $1 million to $2 million per year. The proceeds can go toward academic programs and construction for the new Business and Technology Center that is scheduled to open in 2004.
