Top Gun.

Manchester Resorts needs the properties to build a 400-room hotel project. But one property owner, William Rego, opposes a takeover of his house at Pacific Street and Seagaze Drive, which was featured in the 1986 movie starring Tom Cruise. Some in the community have suggested moving the house to another location.

The City Council voted Wednesday to condemn all three properties, located in a two-block area bounded by Myers Street, Pier View Way,Pacific and Seagaze.

Rego, part of a group called Citizens for the Protection of Beaches and Parks, says a city takeover of the property could leave it encumbered for years, especially if Manchester can¹t find the funds to finance the $120-million project.

Following the 4-1 condemnation vote, the city must now file eminent-domain proceedings in San Diego County Superior Court. A judge will set the fair-market value of the properties.
