Indian Casino Bid for Hudson Gets Interior Department Approval

HUDSON, WI-Wisconsin Gov. Scott McCallum says he will veto the deal, however. That's one obstacle to a proposal that would allow a casino to built on 56 acres here.

HUDSON, WI-A bid to build a Native American casino at a greyhound track here was recently approved by the US Department of the Interior. Three northern Wisconsin Ojibwe bands and the owner of the financially ailing St. Croix Meadows greyhound racing park asked Federal regulators to allow them to take the track and its 56 acres into a Federal trust so a casino could be built there.

While it’s a victory for the tribe and track owner, they have a number of obstacles, including Wisconsin Gov. Scott McCallum’s public opposition to it.
