Ohio 1,131, New York 1,121, Texas 649, Pennsylvania 632 (up from ninth place last year), North Carolina 601, Illinois 563, Louisiana 436 and Virginia 374.

California took top honors as the state gaining the most new manufacturing projects. Among metro areas, Detroit was the winner in total location projects--1,163--with nearly three times as many as No. 2 Chicago.

Site Selection compiles 11 different state and metro rankings, including new and expanded global facilities, new manufacturing plants and three-year profiles of corporate expansion activity. The magazine presents its findings in its March issue.
