The hotels are strategically important to the Radisson chain in Europe and its emerging markets, says Jay Witzel, president of Radisson Hotels & Resorts. Radisson's European development partner, Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts, has done an impressive job of building a strong presence for the Radisson brand since it struck a partnership seven years ago, he says.
The $36-million first-class 277-room Radisson SAS Hotel Tallinn is the biggest foreign investment in Estonia to date and Radisson's first hotel country. Located in the financial and commercial district, it features banquet and meeting facilities for up to 350 people. Its restaurants includes "Seasons," an upscale brasserie, and "Madissoni Leib & Lust," featuring an open kitchen and international cuisine.
The hotel is owned by the Finnish company SRV Development OY, Finnish Fund for Industrial Co-operation, SAS Hotel Investment A/S from Denmark and the Investment Fund for Eastern Europe in Denmark.
The other Radisson SAS hotels in the Baltic region including hotels in Riga, Vilnius, Klaipeda (also recently opened) and St. Petersburg (opening in August).
The Radisson SAS Hotel, Klaipeda, Lithuania is a $6.8-million reconstruction and renovation project. Located in the city center close to the harbor area, the Radisson SAS Hotel in Klaipeda will have 75 guestrooms. The hotel will have a restaurant called "Newport," and some meetings rooms. Fast developing Klaipeda is Lithuania's third-largest city with a population of 202,000 and more than 5,000 companies.
Norwegian Baltic Holding ASA and the Finnish company SRV Development Oy jointly developed the Radisson SAS hotel project in Klaipeda. The majority owner of the hotel property is Baltic Holding AS with more than half of the shares, with the rest owned by the FinnishBaltic Investment Fund and SRV Development Oy.
It's the company's second property in Lithuania, after the opening of the Radisson SAS Astoria Hotel in Vilnius in 1998.
The Radisson SAS Hotel Espoo (the former Rivoli Hotel) is the newest addition to Radisson SAS' Finnish portfolio of hotels, located by the Otaranta waterfront. The 208-room hotel is undergoing extensive renovations, including a new look to the lobby, and should be completed by summer. It is located right next to the largest technology center in the Nordic Countries, the headquarters of most of the major Finnish hi-tech companies.
Radisson Hotels & Resorts Worldwide and its parent, Carlson Hospitality Worldwide, include 716 hotel and resort locations in 64 countries plus five luxury cruise ships with an another under construction.
Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts includes 106 hotels in operation and 27 hotels under development in 38 countries and is the Radisson's sole franchiser in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
