MACON, GA-Technicon Engineering Co. is revitalizing an emerging area in Downtown Macon with the purchase and renovation of a long-vacant 1920s building. Technicon paid the Macon Urban Development Authority $250,000 or $4.71 per sf for the four-story, 53,000-sf structure which previously housed McKesson-Robbins pharmaceutical distribution operations. Macon is 85 miles southeast of Downtown Atlanta.
The Bibb County Commission is partially funding the acquisition. Technicon told a news conference it plans to restore the exterior of the building and expose the original brickwork on the façade and renovate much of the interior. Technicon will take an undetermined amount of space on part of the main and second floors and lease the street side of the first floor for retail and the top two floors for office space. Technicon also has offices in Atlanta and Monterey, Mexico.
