Hyatt has long had an interest in entering the Seattle market, but so far has only a Bellevue property to show for its efforts, which have with Unico Properties about development of a hotel on its property at Fourth Avenue and Union Street.
Hedreen's management team was at the construction site and was also unavailable to shed any light on the deal. The Elliott's official spokesperson Noelle Postma tells GlobeSt she is in the dark about the possible sale.
Despite not being completed, the $140 million hotel made history last year as the first non-affiliate, independent property to ever be inducted into the "Leading Hotels of the World" club prior to its completion. The hotel's 30 stories will hold 538 guestrooms and suites, 25,000 sf of retail, a health club, a 950-stall parking garage and a three-level, 300-seat restaurant sporting an 8,000-bottle wine list.
Construction of The Elliott is being done in conjunction with the $180 million expansion of the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. Postma tells GlobeSt the says The Elliott's opening, originally scheduled for May 1, has been pushed back to June 1 as crews attempt to put in place all of the finishing touches on a hotel worthy of being added to the currently 315 properties worldwide to be classified as five-star. The design of The Elliott was a collaborative effort of Mulvanny G2 Architects and Zena Design Group, both of Seattle.
