The aluminum products manufacturer has undertaken a $6.9 million project that includes the design and construction of a water-cooling system to comply with State Department of Environmental Conservation discharged water standards. Expected to be completed in May 2001, the project will retain 239 jobs which were at risk of being lost, maintaining the company's workforce of 740, state officials relate.
The ESD also approved a $300,000 grant and a $50,000 training grant for Ivoclar North America Inc., in Erie County, a manufacturer of prosthetic, restorative and preventative dentistry products. The $3.6-million project, completed in January 2000, included the construction of a 30,000 sf distribution facility. The project led to the addition of 45 jobs and retention of 194.
ESD approved a $150,000 capital grant to another Eric County firm, Atto Technology, a designer and manufacturer of high performance computer applications. The company's $3.96 million project, announced by Governor Pataki in May 1999, included the construction of a new 40,000 sf multi-use facility. As a result of this project, which was completed in April 2000, the company is adding 100 new jobs to its original workforce of 83.
PaeTec Corp., a Monroe County-based telecommunications company received $150,000, the first portion of a $250,000 grant, from the Empire State Development Corp. The $3.4- million project, announced by Governor Pataki in January 2000, included construction of a new 100,000 sf headquarters in Perinton. As a result of this project, 170 new jobs will be created at the new facility with 50 more jobs being created at other PaeTec sites throughout New York State. The company's total New York workforce will increase from 245 to 465 over the next three years.
ESD approved a $200,000 grant to Star Headlight & Lantern Co., Inc. (Livingston County) a family-owned manufacturer of safety and warning lights. The company is undertaking a $1.2 million project, which includes machinery and equipment purchases and an already completed 11,000 sf foot addition to its existing 79,000 sf facility. Star Headlight will add 200 jobs to its workforce of 170 over the next three years. ,p>Finally, Upstate Biotechnology Inc. of Essex County will receive $150,000 from the ESD, the second portion of a $250,000 grant to this research and commercial technology institute. Upstate Biotechnology's $2.3 million expansion project includes the purchase and renovation of the vacant 42,000 sf Adirondack Biomedical Research facility. As a result of this expansion, 70 existing jobs will be retained and 12 new jobs will be created.
