Start of demolition was met with protesters marching nearby. Calvin Woo and Associates Inc., came up with the name to reflect the area's military heritage.
Over the next few years, the former military base will be the site of new homes, offices, parks and schools in a redevelopment project scheduled for completion by mid-2005. City leaders say the project will attract new high-tech industries to San Diego.
