Janus Donates $7 Mil to Denver Zoo

DENVER-The Janus Foundation has the distinction of being the largest donor in the Denver Zoo's history. A $7-million donation is earmarked to cover half of the cost for a construction project that calls for a new entrance, gift shop, cafe and restaurants.

DENVER-The Janus Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the mutual fund giant based here, has donated $7 million to the Denver Zoo to help build a new main entrance and a gift shop. It is the largest donation received since its founding 105 years ago.

The new main entrance will include a 5,000-sf gift shop, café and restaurants. Construction is expected to start in 2002 and will take 1 1/2 years to complete. The existing main entrance has the capability to handle 300,000 to 500,000 visitors annually, while the zoo draws 1.2 million visitors each year.
