The voice and data services company is cutting personnel at this time to cut overhead and pave the way for a near-future company restructuring, Reuters reports. The 5,000-layoff number was less than the rumored 11,550 or 15% speculated eliminations, according to the wire service.
The job terminations were across the board and not specifically in the company's long-distance center as industry experts had speculated.
