HARRISON, NY-While there is no concrete proposal on the table as yet, for years there have been discussions and some proposals to bring casino gambling to the city of Bridgeport. On Thursday, March 1, Connecticut State Senator George Jepsen said that he fears that the potential relaxation of regulations by the Bureau of Indian Affairs could lead the way to a proposal by a Native American tribe to locate a casino there. “A casino located in Bridgeport would be an unmitigated disaster for Southwestern Connecticut,” said the State Senate Majority Leader. “I-95 during daylight hours would not move.

“It would be the death-knell of a very promising economy,” he predicted. He charged that major corporations, already finding it difficult to attract qualified workers due to tight labor supply in the region, would pack up and move away.
