"It's about how a downtown redevelopment plan is working as promised," Padres president/CEO Larry Lucchino said at a press conference today.
The tenant, Arrowhead General Insurance Agency, plans to move into 75,000 sf of office space in East Village Square. About 400 workers are affected by the consolidation into the three-building development, would be located just outside the outfield fence.
"The possibility of these tenants moving to the East Village before the ballpark (redevelopment) was zero to none," Lucchino says.
The Padres are shopping for several tenants to fill nearly 350,000 sf of office space in that portion of the redevelopment area, according toPadres development officials. The team hopes to develop a total of 700,000 sf of office space and 270,000 sf of retail space surrounding the ballpark.
