Army Chooses MC Partners in $3-Bil Ft. Meade Housing Program

FORT MEADE, MD-In partnership with the military, the developers will build, own, maintain and manage up to 3,200 homes over the next 50 years for military families under an Army housing privatization program, as well as the community's infrastructure.

FORT MEADE, MD-The United States Army has partnered with MC Partners LLC in a $3 billion “residential communities initiative” to build or renovate up to 3,200 homes for military families here over the next 50 years. Under the partnership, MC Partners will invest $400 million and will both own and manage the property once completed.

“Soldiers and their families deserve to live in modern, high quality, livable communities,” says Ray Clark, acting assistant secretary of the Army for installations and environment. “However, given the current budget process and constraints, we wouldn’t be able to accomplish this without the innovative approach that RCI offers.”

Under the program, MC Partners LLC–an equal partnership of Picerne Real Estate Group, of Warwick, RI, and the IT Group, headquartered in Pittsburgh PA–will work with Army officials to develop a management plan. Once completed, the plan goes to the Defense Department and Congress for acceptance, with construction slated to begin in spring 2002.
