Football Players Hope to Score with Internet Data Center

DENVER-Two football players are lobbing an aggressive play for their share of the high-tech market. Come July, Charles Johnson and Alfred Williams will open in 20,000 sf for @Lightspeed as they make plans to set up the largest data center west of the Mississippi.

DENVER-Two former Colorado football stars hope to score big with a new Internet data center company that they’re moving into a 180,000-sf building.

The company, @Lightspeed, is an undertaking by Charles Johnson, who as the University of Colorado Buffalos’ quarterback helped win a national football championship in 1991, and Alfred Williams, who played with the Denver Broncos in two Super Bowl championships. The team is moving into a building at East 43rd Avenue and Brighton Boulevard in an industrial area in northeast Denver.

The first phase will open in July and will include 20,000 sf for customers to house their network equipment and connect to a super-fast Internet backbone. By early 2002, the facility will have about 115,000 sf available, making it one of the largest facilities of its kind west of the Mississippi River, they say.
