Two new locations are opening in southern Johnson County and the company is purchasing three additional existing restaurants.

The new Sonic at 119th Street and Ridgeview Road is to open within this week. Another drive-through is under construction at 135th Street and Blackbob Road.

Two months ago, Sonic purchased three local Checkers Drive-In Restaurants. One of the restaurants is located at 47th Street and Tracy Avenue in Kansas City. Another is located in the Westport entertainment district and another is in the suburb of Raytown.

The three Checkers were previously owned by a franchisee named KC Double Drive-Thru. Now there are five Checkers in the metro. Checkers, based in Clearwater, FL, has 250 company-owned restaurants and 650 franchisee-owned restaurants throughout the country. All the Kansas City Checkers are owned by franchisees.

Sonic, based in Oklahoma City, has 30 restaurants in the metropolitan area.
