Russell previously had embroidery and distribution operations as well as offices in the facility. Columbus is 125 miles south of Atlanta.

The company expects to spend about $2.5 million to renovate the plant and lease the remaining 55,000 sf. Russell will use the facility as a major distribution operation for its Jerzees sportswear and Mossy Oak camouflage apparel and will employ about 100 people. Its former operations in the city had some 500 workers.

The company will distribute its products to retail outlets such as Kmart, Wal-Mart and sporting goods stores. In 2000, Russell reported $1.2 billion in sales, with a large percentage of revenue coming from its Jerzees T-shirts and fleecewear, according to the article.
