Hoover's had acquired Powerize, now know as Hoover's Media Technologies in August 2000. In May, Hoover's will relocate its headquarters to the former Butter Krust bakery building across from Highland Mall. "Closing these offices will result in significant expense savings on an ongoing basis," says Lynn Atchison, Hoover's CFO. "Our leases at these locations were up shortly; space in the Washington area is quite expensive; and we have plenty of much lower-cost office space at our new corporate headquarters."

Hoover's Inc., which employs 250 people in Austin, has leased 38,000 sf in an office building at 1033 La Posada, right off of US 290 and Interstate 35, since May 1996. The renovation of the Butter Krust bakery at 5800 Airport Blvd. will double the office space for the online business information provider. Hoover's has signed a 10-year lease on the property.

The Butter Krust bakery has been closed since 1994. It shut down after 38 years in business when Butter Krust's parent company merged with Flowers Industries. At one time, the location had been marketed for conversion to a retail-office center.
